Well, that was a bust ...

"That" being pretty much the entire month of February! The good news, I guess, is that I know I'm not alone in having it be a basically sucktastic month. If nothing else, Becka can share in my misery ... and my determination that March WILL be better!

I've been spending a little bit of each night for the past few nights on Pinterest coming up with ideas for John's birthday in June ... assuming he'll still be totally obsessed with all things Harry Potter by then. There are 105 days until his birthday. His 8th birthday. I'm still, more or less, at the same weight I was when the doctor gave me the go-ahead to start exercising and such after his birth. How's THAT for depressing? I grew up with "the fat mom" ... I lost her too early because of her obesity ... I've got to suck it up.

I know. I know. I've said it a million times before. Not sure what's going to be different about this time.

Today I plan on playing with my Bugg positioning with the bike and see if I can't figure out how to get it to track more accurately while I pedal. Maybe this weekend I'll even get to hit the grocery store at some point if the snow and wind chill ever lets up.

Deep down I know what I need to do ... maybe this month I'll actually do it.

Wake-up Call!

We got a new recumbent bike delivered yesterday. Mine was about 10 years old and didn't have any tension to it anymore (and was pretty cheap and basic to begin with even brand new), so Tom decided to upgrade us.

I don't think I'll be attempting any mile challenges with it for a while because Oh. My. Ow. I let John decide what I was going to do today for the "course" and he chose Pyramids. The default time is 15 minutes but I upped it to 30 because, well, 15 sounded pathetic.

Almost died after the 30 .... but I still had 15 minutes left to the show I was watching so figured I might as well do a "fun ride" course for the final 15.

No idea what the mileage was and my BodyBugg wasn't placed properly, I guess, because even though I'm sweating my ass off it only picked up 15 minutes of moderate activity .... but it's all good ....

So ... very ... ugh

Had a good weekend with a good amount of sleep and a great day out Sunday with my guy-folk to see The Lego Movie .... but I'm just .... ugh.

We've got a large rather-needy group at the hotel right now that are fine as long as they're sleeping .... but they wake up way too early and the neediness starts. They aren't horrific or mean spirited or even grumpy (which amazes me considering HOW early they all wake up) .... BUT. Maybe it was just a first morning learning curve for them and it'll go smoother getting them situated and out for the rest of their stay. One can only hope because something about it all is just throwing me for a loop.

Actually, I don't know if it's actually them. It could be the weather. We actually had a couple of pretty decent days and then the snow and wind and extreme cold came back. If it were consistent I'd not complain so much but it's the constant inconsistency that drags me down.

And SPEAKING of constant inconsistency, much could be the same about my eating and exercise. I wanted to get on the bike today but was too wiped out from shoveling at work and then home. By the time I was feeling over that it was pretty much time for me to take my pre-work nap. It's supposed to snow Wednesday again but not enough (so they say) to have it be problematic. Who knows, maybe I'll even squeak in some miles before John even heads to school. Seems more productive than Candy Crush...

Sleep is my friend

As soon as I got home from work I went to bed and stayed there for five hours! DEFINITELY needed! I have a feeling I'll be going to bed right after John does tonight, too. I'm okay with that. Sleep is my friend.

So totally NOT hitting the 50 miles for the bike by tomorrow. Just don't feel like being on it for 30 miles today. Not that it can't be done .... I've done 30 mile days before .... I just don't wanna. Of course, the last time I did a 30 mile day I wasn't planning on being on that long I just didn't have anything else to do and got carried away while watching tv on my iPad ....

Next week we go back to life as usual so the 50 should me more doable .... if I don't spend the whole week in bed trying to make up for this week ;)

Why isn't it OVER yet?!?!?

I swear this is feeling like one of the longest weeks EVER.

3 hours and 40ish minutes left to my shift tonight.

One more shift after this.

Three nights off after that.

Bring it on!!!

Today (Wednesday) was spent doing a whole lotta nothing... and playing with my new PlanetBox. I'm hoping that having a fancy new lunchbox will make me more apt to bring lunch to work more regularly. Of course, I have a freaking crapton of boxes already so I don't really know why this one will make a difference. Maybe because it's more me.

I kept meaning to get on the bike. Finally did... but by the time I did I was so tired (again) that I wasn't on for long before heading to bed. I seriously doubt I'll hit the 50 miles this week unless I somehow manage to pedal AND nap at the same time at some point. The 3 x 30 for the Wii shouldn't be as big of a problem to pull off since John has already informed me that he's going to "make me" do it Thursday at some point. He's brutal, I tell ya!

Unbalanced

The Wii Fit Plus still says I'm unbalanced. I wonder, sometimes, if it means mentally .... but then my smallish trainer has me play something like the Skateboarding coarse and I realize that I'm just really REALLY unbalanced physically .... too. So, yeah. I kinda sucked at the skateboarding yesterday BUT I'm getting better at the obstacle course and he finished me off with the Island Cycling. I kinda wanted to go back to the Beginner course but oooooooh no he had me do the Island View Course which is unlocked after completion of the Advanced course.

And then I thought I was going to collapse.

So I did ....

.... and we played a couple of levels of his new Lego Harry Potter game. (He hasn't read the books OR seen the movies yet but not he wants to because of the game!)

Not sure what I'll be feeling up to doing today. I'm already exhausted and wanting a really long nap that won't happen. Maybe I'll hit the bike for a bit and start on one of the books I added onto The Reading Plan tonight. It was featured in one of the many free/cheap ebook emails I get and looked like something I would enjoy since it's got the mafia (and I've been going through Boardwalk Empire withdrawal) AND takes place in upstate New York! Not exactly where I am in this great big snowball of a state, but that's okay. It got decent reviews on Amazon and was free. I also sprung the buck for the sequel just in case it ends up going up in price by the time I decide I want to read it, too. So, 50 cents a pop for the two books. Well, 49 1/2 .... whatever. Worth a shot, right?

Monday already???

Well, really, in 18 minutes it'll officially be Tuesday here but whatever.

Decent enough weekend. Sunday afternoon I had a job interview and walked to/from rather than try and figure out Sunday bus schedules that wouldn't get me there an hour + early .... or 15 minutes late. Took about 30-40 minutes each way and was fine in spite of the cold and snow .... until my boots started to grind into the back of my ankles right above my heels. OUCH! Not fun AT ALL after that. By the time I got home I was in such agony that I didn't want to move and even sleeping was problematic because the scrapes kept touching stuff .... like air. I didn't even end up minding so much, then, when the nitwit dog woke me up at 5am to go pee. Still not feeling great tonight but at least feeling some better ....

I kept forgetting that today was President's Day which meant no mail. I kept checking the stupid box to see if anything was there. I blame UPS for still delivering today. Threw me all off. BUT they delivered a new workout "game" for our Wii called Walk It Out. John got pretty winded from it pretty fast but he wasn't walking -- he was sprinting in place. Crazy wonderful kid.

Now I'm at work waiting for food to be delivered since I forgot to make anything at home and just grabbed a banana on my way out the door. Yes, you should always take a banana to a party but one banana is not going to get me through an 8 hour shift at work.

John's off school all week for mid-winter break. Hopefully he'll let me pass out from time to time without going too stir crazy.... or breaking anything significant....

*YAWN*

John actually tucked me in to bed last night and then let me sleep in this morning I was SO exhausted after all the shoveling at work and then not sleeping during the day because he had a snow day yesterday. 10 1/2 hours of sleep registered with my Bugg since still woke up at 6:30 in spite of the small one being good about not getting me out of bed even after Tom left for work. The day before only 4 1/2 hours so it was sorta needed!

Woke up, saw that my state refund had been deposited, paid some bills and then John & I walked over to the drugstore so he could get "whatever he wanted" -- which ended up being a couple of clearance plushes, popcorn, Angry Birds puzzle erasers and a Skylanders puzzle eraser. We don't have Skylanders for the Wii yet so I asked if he wanted to see about ordering it when we got home. When it came down to it he opted to get the Lego Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings games instead, though, and I got the Walk It Out game for myself that my friend has been talking about. They should be here on Tuesdayish along with a new cover for my 1st generation iPad. I switched with John and gave him claim to the mini and took back the 1st gen for myself. He plays games that aren't 1st gen compatible and I want the extra memory that our 1st gen has for movies and books and stuff..... but desperately need a new cover/stand for it since he mutilated the ones we had for it while it was in his possession!

Oh. I also stepped on the scale this morning. 207.6 which is up a pound since Tuesday and a number I've seen WAY too often lately. Of course, I had a pretty lousy week for food and lack of exercise. I was all gung-ho at the end of the bike challenge by thinking I'd jump into videos and Wii workouts and be all sorts of awesome.... but with no concrete goal it became more of a "meh ... don't wanna ... don't gotta ... not gonna ..." more often than not.

No more!!!

I'm setting myself a weekly goal of a MINIMUM or 50 miles on the bike and 90 minutes of Wii workouts. 3 30-minutes would do that easy peasy .... in theory ;)  I've got a new tab up top with a calendar where I'll be tracking. BIG thanks to Andy over at Today's the Day I Lose! for the idea!!!

Now. On to the bike! I've got some Australian tv to catch up on ....

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! (and a big fat never mind!)

So we're getting slammed with more snow which means more shoveling at work. After just under an hour of trying to clear the walkways I went to sync my Bugg to my phone. And it wouldn't. Tried to unpair/re-pair it with the Bluetooth. Notta. It's not even finding it TO re-pair. The green lights blink when I push the button so it doesn't appear to be a battery issue. I think I may need to try a hard reset and then sync it to the computer to wake it back up. When I get home. In 5 1/2 hours. It's old. I get that. Heck, it's a BodyBugg. Technically, they don't even really exist anymore ... they just pretend they're something else. I may need an actual upgrade to an actual Link. Darn good thing that, thanks to my tax refunds, I can actually afford it!

***UPDATE***

CRISIS AVERTED!!! At least, for now. It's syncing again and while I still fell short for calories burned for Thursday it looks like I'll be more than okay for Friday's goals being met ... especially since I'll probably need to shovel at least once more before I even get to go home!

You like me! You really like me!!!

I just got an email letting me know that I've been nominated for the Healthiest Honey Award in the Best of Blog Awards over at My So-Called Chaos! I don't know who in the world did such a thing (I have some suspicions, though) but I REALLY needed the smile today that is now plastered across my face .... so thanks! I'll be doing my voting tonight at work as there are quite a few categories I have to check out more closely. If you'd like to vote for me (or anyone else), just click the link!

My So-Called Chaos Best of Blog Awards

Wednesday? What Wednesday?

I'm just going to pretend that Wednesday didn't happen this week.

It was bad.

There were lots of calories consumed.

There were NOT lots of calories burned.

Well, I'm sure there were somewhere. Definitely not here, though.

The sinus/cold fiasco is still hanging on strong and now my bum knee is acting up, too. I don't care, though. Thursday I WILL do something.

I think I need to set a new concrete challenge. I busted my ass to get that bike one done and since? Well, not so much.

Feels on top of feels!

I finished reading Hollow City tonight and when I finished it my hands were literally shaking.

Silly me tried to jump into another book. And then another.

Too much emotional upheaval from the peculiar children, though.

Then this happened:

Yeah, my bestie is a freaking genius ... and knows me better than anyone (other than Tom and sometimes even that's debatable).

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

Man oh man!

My weekend was a bit on the exhausting side -- Saturday morning my federal refund ended up getting deposited earlier than I had expected so I spent a large chunk of the morning paying bills and seeing how quickly it diminished. Then John and I hit the Wii Fit Plus for a while. Sunday morning we hit Super Walmart for a mega-grocery spree (plus some new sneakers for growth-spurt boy) and almost as soon as we had everything put away we were out the door again to head out to Tom's folks' house and then to his grandmother's. I hit the bike for a little bit after that and at some point in the midst of everything I got slammed with some serious sinus/cold issues. Popped some Benadryl and slept okay off and on and then grabbed some actual sinus medicine from the drugstore after getting John off to school Monday morning. Of course since I still have to work all week I got the non-drowsy kind which still ended up knocking me loopy. Managed some time on the bike, though, since I knew I wouldn't be able to stay upright enough to attempt the Wii. Went to bed early and when I woke up didn't dare take anything before heading in to work since, you know, passing out in a "non-drowsy"-cold-pill-induced coma would probably be frowned upon. So instead I've dealt with the last 6 1/2 hours of sneezing and shivering (in spite of having the heat cranked to 78) and trying to breathe without sounding like Darth Vader. And the worst part of all of it for me??? Having to miss out on my Wii Fit Plus workouts. Even though the calorie burn isn't as high as it has been with the bike I've found I really quite enjoy it... even when it gets so hard I think I might curl up in a fetal position on the balance board and cry. Hopefully I'll get back to it soon....

Squirrels & Unicorns & Ferrets, Oh My!

I normally try and do my bloggy stuff while I'm at work but tonight/last night/whatFREAKINGever it just didn't happen (until these 10 minutes before going home). Every time I thought I was going to ....

Oh! Look! Something shiny!

I've gotten wrapped up in a new book on The Reading Plan after realizing that the actual #6 just wasn't going to happen. It wasn't holding my attention.

ANYWAY (yeah - attention span of a gnat) Thursday was a bit of a bust. John stayed home from school since Tuesday the school nurse said we absolutely couldn't send him back to school unless whatever crud he had was 100% for sure really gone. Wednesday was a snow day and he was a little iffy on the 100% bit anyway so we figured one more day just to be on the safe side. We did play a little Wii with the balance board, though not the Wii Fit .... and I did opt to walk to the bus stop half a mile or so away rather than around the corner for work .... and I STILL came up 5 minutes shy of my "moderate activity" goal with BodyMedia.

Today may or may not be better.

The past two days of John being home has really taken it's toll on my exhaustion-wise since I normally sleep while he's at school. I may make up for it today with a vengeance.

Or I may be so wound up from all the fairies farting around that I can't sleep at all and I'll turn into Super Workout Girl.

Stop laughing, Becka. It could happen.

Thursday, February 6, 2014

Oh. My. Mii.

The snow continued to dump on us and dump on us and was still dumping when I went to take my pre-work nap around 6:20pmish. It decided to ease up a bit between then and when I woke up 3 hours later but it's still pretty dang nasty out. Part way through the day I shoveled our driveway to give Tom half a shot at getting in when he came home from work. Of course, it was coming down so hard it was pretty much filled in by the time he did so. He said it was helpful, though, and I got some decent calories burned. Got some more right after I got to work by shoveling the walks around the hotel (apparently 2nd shift was too busy ... or something ... ), and will get MORE in before I leave by doing a "deep clean" of our guest laundry room. Of course, there's supposed to be a checklist to follow for that that I don't have so I may put it off and hope someone bothers getting it for me for tomorrow night ... or I may just do the best I can and say screw it. I need the burn.

I need the burn.

I need to get this done.

I think it hit me more today than it has in a while and I blame/thank my Mii on John's Wii.
The Wii Fit Plus & balance board arrived the other day while I was "oh woe"ing me but today we finally got it set up and going.

I had no idea that it was going to set it up for how horribly out of shape I'm in now. Or that my darling seven year old would be paying quite so much attention and understand quite so much about what was being displayed on the tv screen as I went through it.

The worst part? When it decided to calculate my Wii Fit Age.

Now, if you've watched The Biggest Loser (US or Australian, at least) you know how they sit the contestants down towards the beginning and go over how unhealthy they are and "you're actually ____ but your 'real age' is ____" (this season on TBL-Aus they did projected age of death but same basic idea).

I turned 38 in December.

My Wii Fit Age is 52.

My mom died with morbid obesity being a "main cause" a month after she turned 54.

I need to get this done.

If a tree falls in the forest ...

You know the question: If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it still make a sound?

In this case, though, the question is if the snow falls on the sidewalks and the BodyBugg isn't fully charged, does the shoveling still make a calorie burn?
We're getting dumped on tonight and I don't have to shovel. There's actual an engineer staying in the hotel just so he can wake up early and take care of it. Of course, it's 4:07am now and I don't have any clue how "early" that would be since I haven't seen him since right after I came in just before 11pm.

I normally do the overnight shoveling. I normally don't have a choice. Tonight I don't need to but I want to ... even though my Bugg appears to be kaput for battery power (which I discovered when it wouldn't sync to my phone). Of course, I'm finally feeling a bit more like myself and should probably save my energy for the fact that I won't get much of a nap today since they've already cancelled school ... which means the smallish person will probably be all rip-roaring-ready to Wii Fit Plus.

I'll give it one more program on my iPad. If there's no sign of anyone who's actually supposed to be shoveling by then I'll do it. Even without the burn credit.

The Yuck Continues

I'm still not feeling great ... and we got a call from the school nurse very early into the school day saying we (okay, Tom -- I was sleeping) had to pick up John ... AND I got less than half of my normal post-work nap because I kept rolling over onto my thigh which still hurts like samhell.

BUT the Wii Fit Plus got delivered today so once we're all done being on the verge of death we can get that hooked up and going ....

Which should help counteract that "eh" associated with this:
Before/During/After pics have been the "thing" in one of my groups the past few days so before my pathetic attempt at a nap I did one. 206.8 is what the scale is claiming today. Hopefully we'll see some progress at some point!

Meh. (And Friend Makin' Monday)

Today is going to be a rest day.
Actually, today is going to be a "don't get off the couch unless I have to rush to the bathroom day."
I was up every couple of hours last night thinking that I was going to die. I didn't, of course, and I'm assuming that's a good thing.
So I've got my phone and my ipad and my book and some gingerale going flat in the kitchen. Couldn't find any diet gingerale at the store but that's okay .... the regular will probably be the only real calories I get put in me for much of the day.
The worst part? I can't even call in sick for work tonight because I can't afford it and there really isn't anyone to cover for me anyway.
Hopefully it'll pass quickly....
Now on to Friend Makin' Monday!

Another day

Today I hit my half hour of activity before 9:30am thanks to John and I walking over to the grocery store and back first thing this morning. THEN, just because I wanted to, I also put in just under an hour on my bike. I don't have any miles lingering over my head anymore ... I just love that fool bike and wanted to. I'm really glad I thought to do it early because I ended up getting some new ink on my thigh this evening and there's no way I could peddle now!
The quote (one of my favorites from Jillian Michaels) was done a while back. The girl sitting above it was drawn by a dear dear friend and posted, originally, on Instagram. I decided she needed a red hoodie and socks but otherwise it's all Jenn thanks to my in-house tattoo artist, Tom. Sleeping is going to be interesting since I tend to sleep on my left side ... and even if I sleep on my right side the blankets will be weighing on it. It's going to be one of those "damned if I do, damned if I don't" deals. In the long haul, though, it'll be worth a night or two of discomfort (and possibly a rest day from exercise tomorrow) because it's freaking awesome. I think the picture works perfectly with the quote, don't you?

It's currently just after 6pm and I'm watching Biggest Loser Australia on my iPad and debating what to eat. Yesterday I had an almost non-existent deficit and today it looks like I may have more of a deficit than I'm typically comfortable with. I guess if we combine the two days together it'll balance out. That works, right?

I did it! I really REALLY did!

Last night two wonderful things happened:

  1. I hit the 1,000 mile mark on my recumbent for the challenge I started for myself October 8th -- and 4 days earlier than my "deadline," too!
  2. I finished The Sherlockian which means I'm WAY ahead of schedule on my GoodReads Challenge!

Next up is Cleo Coyle's Murder Most Frothy from her Coffeehouse Mystery series. Now, I grabbed the first pile of books in the series a few years back and immediately flew through the first three books. Then I got to this one and I don't know if life got in the way or what but I never made it past the first few chapters. SO I'm giving it another try. If I find that I don't want to keep reading it a few chapters in I'll have some serious readjusting to do to The Reading Plan since I made it with the assumption that I'd be diving back into the series. We'll see, I guess!

So, it being the first day of February, here's where I am for stats compared to the first day of January:
Weight: 207.6 -- down 3.4 since January 1
Waist: 39" -- down half an inch since January 1
Hips: 49" -- same as January 1

At some point today John and I are going to be getting in some exercise with the Wii even if it's a few rounds of Wii Sports games. He's all gung-ho about helping me out with this right now. We'll see how long that lasts, though!
